Nongpoh, Sep 6: Ri Bhoi police arrested two persons for transporting marijuana in a vehicle from Shillong to Nongpoh, police said today.
Following information shared by the Khasi Students Unin (KSU) of North Khasi Hills district, a check was conducted by police at Lad Umtrew, Umsning along the National Highway 6 last night.
Two persons travelling in a Tata Sumo bearing registration number ML10D5684 identified as Bobystar Kharbani (23) of Pahamsyiem village and Patrick Lyngdoh (33) of Mawroh village were arrested after 66 packets of marijuana weighing 3.984 kg was recovered from their possession.
Police said the contraband was intended for sale in the Nongpoh area.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 was registered and investigation into the case is ongoing.
