Two people were arrested in possession of explosives in Jowai, police said today.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Gabriel K. Iangrai said that the authorities suspect the duo to have been plotting to blow up the tollgate on the National Highway at 7th Mile in West Jaintia Hills.
He said that a joint operation comprising police teams from East and West Jaintia Hills was conducted yesterday wherein two people were arrested.
According to Iangrai, five gelatin sticks, ten detonators and fuse wire were recovered from their possession.
The two persons, who were not named by police, were arrested in Wahgate, Jowai.
A criminal case was registered against them at Jowai Police Station.
