Two residents of Assam who were on their way to Shillong by motorbike died after their two-wheeler collided with a truck on Sunday morning near Shangbangla, Ri-Bhoi.
The incident occurred at around 9:45am on National Highway 6.
The accident involved a Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle (AS 01FF 3367) ridden by Nilutpal Dowari (23) from Dibrugarh and pillion rider Gargee Chutia (21) of Charaideo.
The motorbike was in the process of overtaking a truck (AS 01RC 0413) when the rider lost control at a sharp curve, causing the two-wheeler to collide with the truck’s rear tyre.
The two deceased were both thrown beneath the truck and died on the spot.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and both bodies were transported to the Nongpoh Civil Hospital morgue for an inquest and post-mortem examination. The truck driver was later medically examined at the same hospital. Both vehicles were impounded by Nongpoh police.
