In a very grievous motor accident on Wednesday morning, two people died after a Silchar-bound lorry collided head on with another on its way to Guwahati on the Shillong Bypass in Ri-Bhoi.
SK Sarif, the driver of the truck, on its way to Silchar (WB 41 G 6998) died on the spot while his handyman, Sarif Hussain, received minor injuries. The other truck bore registration number NL 01 AE 3329.
After the collision, one of the trucks also rammed another light vehicle and a pedestrian, Khandi Rabha, was also struck by one of the vehicles, resulting in serious injuries. Although she was taken to Shillong Civil Hospital, she died of her injuries.
Umiam Police Station officers are investigating the accident.
