Two persons died and two others sustained injuries in an accident along the Shillong-Guwahati National Highway today.
The accident was caused when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to high speed.
According to the police, George Kharkongor a resident of Nongrah, Shillong was driving a car bearing registration number ML05N0174 with three passengers, identified as Banrap Marboh of Mawlynrei, Shillong, Frick Kharkongor of Nongrah and Leuwis Kharkongor of Lapalang.
The incident happened at around 1am. Reckless driving caused the vehicle to topple onto a divider and then overturned, police said.
George suffered injuries while Banrap who was found unconscious due to the impact of the accident succumbed to his injuries on the way to the Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
Another passenger, Frick who suffered severe injuries and referred to Shillong later died at the Civil Hospital.
