Two workers from Assam reportedly died inside a coal mine in Shallang under West Khasi Hills district.
The deceased were identified as Ainuddin Ali (28) and Sukur Ali (30), and both of them hailed from Boko area of Assam.
Sources said that the workers were killed due to asphyxiation while working inside the coal mine.
The incident occurred on the intervening night of February 16 and February 17, when the duo was digging in the coal mine where deficiency of oxygen resulted in their death.
When contacted, West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Herbert G Lyngdoh said he did not have any official information to confirm the death of two workers. He however said the SDPO Mawshynrut has been asked to conduct an enquiry.
