Jowai, Mar 7: The 1st West Jaintia Hills Book Fair was inaugurated by cabinet minister and Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla at the District Library in Mynthong, Jowai yesterday.
During the inauguration, the minister, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Kumar, inspected the stalls and interacted with publishers and participating organisations.
In his address, Shylla highlighted the importance of cultivating the habit of reading and learning especially in today’s highly competitive world. He noted that the newly established Digital Learning Centre along with the recent improvements of the District Library will provide students and the local community with better access to learning resources. He noted that this initiative will enable students to stay informed, access updated information and broaden their knowledge across subjects.
The book fair is organised by the DC’s office in collaboration with Owl Library Initiative under the Kyrshan Foundation, funded through the CM Catalytic Fund- ‘Celebrating Literature, Culture and Community’.
The book fair, being held on March 6 and 7 features several books stalls including both local and some from Assam, publishers and organisations including Rikhasi, Books and Brews and the North Eastern Social Research Centre, Saura Mandala Foundation, Admission Online and ALS Coaching Centre. The stalls also offer career guidance and study material for students.
In addition to the book stalls, the fair hosts student’s activities such as art and essay writing competitions, with food stalls and musical performances.
