The first Mawkyrwat Mawpoiñ competition (invitational) was held at the MDSA playground with over 160 participants.
The game, which is indigenous to the Khasi community was organised as part of the celebration of 50 years of statehood and 75 years of India Independence by the office of the District Sports Officer, South West Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the district administration.
Additional deputy commissioner, S.C. Laloo who attended the competition as the chief guest in his speech said Mawpoiñ is an old game which has been revived and recognised by the Sports department.
He said sports and games are excellent tools that can be used to keep the body fit as well as create a positive impact in one’s life where many people choose sports as a career option. He urged people to come forward and participate in such games as development not only depends on developmental works or projects but through people’s participation in various areas of life.
South West Khasi Hills district sports officer, Damang Syngkon D. Marweiñ, L.D.A, District Sports Officer were also present at the event.
