The State government on Friday informed that the survey report has indicated that an additional land of sixteen to seventeen acres of land is required for the expansion of the Shillong Airport.
Informing that the meeting with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is yet to be held to discuss the feasibility report, Urban Affairs Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said, “We are yet to have a joint meeting with the centre. Once we get a green signal from GOI then we can go for the land how much extra land is required”.
Asked how much additional land has been indicated as required, he said, “It is indicated another additional land of 16-17 acres more or less for the runway and safety area”.
He said the State government intends to invite the Union Minister to Shillong to discuss the matter on the spot.
Talking about the report, he said the consultation has submitted the report and feasibility is there provided some exemption that is requested from the government.
He added that is the reason why there is a need to met the GOI once again
“We are yet to have a meeting with the Civil aviation minister to update him as to what reports latest submitted by the consultation hopefully it will go to the right direction,” he added,
He also informed that the State has enough funds for land acquisition.
The State Cabinet had recently approved the proposal to acquire additional land for expansion of the two airports in the state – Shillong Airport and Baljek Airport.
The state government has also decided to seek necessary permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) following the latest survey report indicating the feasibility for expansion of the Shillong Airport for landing of bigger aircrafts.
Informing this after chairing the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had said, “The cabinet has given the approval to go ahead and start the process (of land acquisition for the Shillong Airport).”
