Fifteen workers allegedly engaged without valid labour licences were detected by the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council today.
The HYC, Mawiong unit claimed that the workers from West Bengal were detected near Rymbai fuel refill station, who are engaged to work at a construction site by a contractor at NEIGRIHMS.
In a statement here, the HYC stated the workers boarded a night super bus and are about to board three local cabs. They said that the workers do not possess work permit, Covid test report and even police verification certificates and other required documents.
The pressure group stated that when questioned, the workers said that they paid Rs 500 each at the check gate at Umling without being tested for Covid-19. “It is evident that the check gate was installed for some vested interest to mint money,” HYC Mawlai circle general secretary, Bashan Lyngdoh Mawnai Iawphniaw said.
He said that the workers were in possession of fake voter ID cards, Aadhar and Pan Card, except for one who has e-Shram card, whose validity ended.
The HYC felt that contractors should refrain from engaging workers from outside the state without proper verification.
