The K-9 dog squad of the Meghalaya Police is set to play a larger role in law enforcement with the induction of 12 new members trained in detecting explosives and narcotics.
The first batch canines and their handlers have completed their eight month training and the passing out parade was conducted at the Old Meghalaya Police Training School in Mawroh today.
Director General of Police, LR Bishnoi told reporters that four members of the squad will be sent to Bangalore for advanced training.
Out of the 12, six canines have been trained to handle explosives and the remaining others have been trained to deal with narcotics cases.
Bishnoi informed that special training was imparted to the squad in view of the increase in narcotic cases in the State.
