The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has allocated central assistance for 110 projects to Meghalaya under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0) scheme.
According to official sources, the central fund released for project implementation under State Water Action Plan – I was Rs 21.69 crore which includes projects related to water supply, sewerage and septage management, parks and green spaces development and water bodies rejuvenation.
The central assistance allocation for administrative and office expenses is Rs 3.57 crore while the amount released for administrative and office expenses was Rs 1.1 crore.
AMRUT 2.0 scheme was launched on October 1, 2021 for the period of five years – from the financial year 2021-22 to 2025-26.
Under AMRUT 2.0, funds have been allocated to states and union territories for the entire mission period not year-wise. Till date, no utilisation certificate has been received against the fund released under AMRUT 2.0.
The Central allocation of Rs 66,750 crore for AMRUT 2.0 projects have been distributed among the states and union territories using the equitable formula wherein weightage to urban population (Census 2011) and area of each state and union territory have been given in the ratio of 90:10.
The thrust areas of the AMRUT are water supply, sewerage and septage management, storm water drainage, green spaces and park, and non-motorised urban transport.
AMRUT provides flexibility to states and union territories to apprise, approve and implement projects at their level.
The Mission has a reform agenda with 11 reforms comprising 54 milestones which broadly cover online services to citizens, establishing a single window for all building approvals, developing at least one park for children every year, energy audit, credit rating of cities, urban planning, etc.
