A key suspect involved in facilitating the illegal entry of Bangladeshis into India identified as Sukur Janab Shaikh and eleven Bangladeshi nationals, including two minors were arrested, police said today.
Acting on intelligence input, Ri Bhoi police launched a search operation on a train number 15945 (LTT-Dibrugarh Station) at Kamakhya and Guwahati. While the suspect facilitator was not found, police located the Bangladeshi nationals travelling in a tourist Sumo bearing registration number AS-01-EC-3528 at Byrnihat Police Outpost.
Superintendent of Police, Vivekanand Singh Rathore said with the assistance of Assam police, the key facilitator was later arrested.
The detained Bangladeshi nationals are Kakali Sardar (36), Hirina Dili Mulla (30), Unjilla Sadar (32), Rabia Begum (37), Panna Kamal Hussain (42), Poppy Hasu Mollah (26), Sonia Shaikh (24), Sobha Islam (28), Saja Uddin Sk (26), and two minors.
Police also recovered forged documents, including Aadhaar Cards, PAN Cards, and other fake identification papers.
Rathore said the illegal immigrants intended to travel through Dawki and cross the international border.
A case has been registered at Nongpoh Police Station.
